Ole' Anchorage Photography
Shared Interest Group (SIG)
Last updated: Monday, September 16, 2024
The Ole' Photo SIG is a part of the Anchorage Ole' Program. Our members represent a wide range of photography interests and skill levels. We have a public Facebook Page (Sig-ole Camera Club) but most of the action happens on our private Facebook Page. Join the Photo SIG through Ole' and we'll get you access to the private site.
From 2020 until 2024, the Photo SIG was managed by a Steering Committee.
What did the Steering Committee do? When he Steering Committee was first organized on March 9, 2020, the FaceBook notes on the meeting state: “The purpose of the committee is to do what Chuck (original founder) did: organize meetings, oversee the photo competition, set up a way for communicating ideas/opportunities as they arise, manage the Facebook account, etc... The committee will use other volunteers for specific tasks.”
At the September 2024 meeting, it was decided that it was time to reorganize the SIG governance as there were no longer any volunteers to serve on the steering committee. The consensus was that the Photo Chat group (see below) would assume the duties of the steering committee. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to join the group and have an influence on the Photo SIG.
Generally the Photo SIG meets once a month (2nd Mondays at 1p). We used to meet physically, but with the 2020 Pandemic, we permanently switched to Zoom meetings. We use the current Photo Chat Link for the Zoom meetings. The meetings are also announced on the private Photo SIG Facebook page and by email to the registered members of the group.
Additionally, a self selecting sub-group of the Photo SIG and others meet frequently via Zoom to critique each other's work, practice our editing skills, and discuss anything about photography. This group has spun off from the Ole' Photo SIG as the Alaska Photo Chat. This group is open to anyone. Feel free to drop in. Click the link and find out more!
From time to time, we hold special events/activities. One of those is our (hopefully) annual photography competition which is used to showcase the work of our members.
Another activity has been an "intentional" photography exercise. It was fun and we'll be doing it again. Check it out and join us.
The images from both of these events are available on this website.
Many of our group annually enter local competitions. It has been suggested that we show those images.
Enjoy!
